For most short-term visitors with an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone, an eSIM is the simplest option. Before buying, compare the network used, data allowance/speed policy, validity period, hotspot support, whether a Korean phone number is included, and exactly when the validity period begins.
1. What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM installed on a compatible phone, commonly through a QR code or an on-device setup process. It can save airport time because there is no physical card to insert.

SK Telecom offers visitor eSIM products on its official roaming site. Its current visitor eSIM information advertises unlimited data with a speed policy and online purchase options.

LG U+ is another major Korean mobile carrier. Travelers should check the current visitor product, supported devices, pricing and activation terms directly before purchasing.

Choose eSIM when you want fast setup and your phone supports it. Choose a physical SIM if your phone does not support eSIM or if the physical-SIM product better matches your need for calls, SMS or in-person setup.
Korea Tourism Organization travel information notes that prepaid SIM products for visitors are available through airports, convenience stores and carrier channels, while eSIM can be delivered and configured digitally.
5. Before you fly
Confirm that your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM. Keep the purchase email or QR code somewhere you can access offline. Follow the provider's installation instructions carefully, and do not delete an installed eSIM unless the provider says it can be reissued.
